This week we get a taste of the paranormal for Fiery Friday. Nia Farrell is giving us a piece of her newest release, Dark Moons Rising, which is the story of a heroine who ends up in a scorching sexual affair with two centaur shifters.
And check out that HOT HOT HOT cover!
Nia took a lot of time to share her story with me, so check her out!
Tell us about yourself. Why did you decide to write in the romance/erotica genre?
Nia Farrell is my naughty side. I’m a multi-genre author who is published in nonfiction, poetry, music, and children's books, with one documentary screenplay under my literary belt. I’ve had a love affair with the romance genre since I first discovered it as a young, stay-at-home mother.
I’m an old soul and a period reenactor who's been into corsets for centuries, although I wear them more to Civil War events these days. I’ve been involved in the metaphysical community for over twenty-five years. I am a Reiki Master and crystal healer whose work encompasses this and other lifetimes. In my book SOMETHING MORE, BDSM and submission are tools for healing post-rape PTSD. SOMETHING MORE has been nominated for BEST BDSM BOOK OF THE YEAR, Ménage Category, in the 2016 Golden Flogger Awards.
My debut books from The Three Graces Series, SOMETHING ELSE, SOMETHING DIFFERENT, and SOMETHING MORE, are kink with a paranormal twist. Soul mates, reincarnation, karmic fallout, shamanism, and psychic abilities come into play. Personal experience and extensive research go into crafting my characters, but it's my sense of whimsy that has made fictional Posey, Minnesota, the ménage capital of the United States with a Monty-Python-themed diner that's central to the plotlines.
I was fortunate enough to meet my soul mate early on. I married my high school sweetheart, raised two children, and began writing at my husband's suggestion. I loved reading erotic romance and eventually added it to the genres that I write. I’ve been published in erotic romance since 2015.
What "heat level" should readers expect from your latest release?
Heat level is scorching. DARK MOONS RISING is a D/s PNR shifter ménage novelette, with the heroine submitting to two centaur shifters.
What do you like most about the heroine and/or hero in your new book?
The heroine is a survivor, a compassionate healer by nature who has seen her family and people killed by an enemy who wants her as his sex slave. She escapes and finds sanctuary with two dark lords, centaur shifters who belong to a race that she was raised to fear. Her experience has made her realize that the true worth of a man is not in title or rank but in his conduct, and she offers herself to them if they will protect her from all others.
How do you get ideas for new stories?
Sometimes it’s a character, a scenario, a piece of music, a page from history – anything can spark my imagination and light the fire of creativity.
What is your favorite romantic movie and why?
SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, life imitating art imitating life. The screenplay is brilliant.
What is something you want readers to know about you?
The character that I am most like in my books is Grace Murphy, an Irish descent psychic medium who recalls past lives shared with her soulmates. I remember about 70 of my past lives.
What do you do in your free time when you're not writing?
I’m a Civil War reenactor and a shutterbug.
What's the best way for readers to connect with you?
My author page on Facebook
What are you working on right now?
Current WIP are a PRN angel book and a revisionist treatment of a literary classic.
What is your MOST and/or LEAST thing about being a romance/erotica writer?
I love writing stories that are entrusted to me to tell, love getting to know the characters who come, and do my best to do them justice. The bane of a writer’s existence is time, not being able to read for pleasure when you’d like to, and time spent self-promoting means less time writing.
Deidra of Ravenhill is a daughter of light, a healer whose energy can be tapped by the one who marks her. Mordred, bastard son of Owain ap Coel, is determined to be that man. He’s captured the castle, killed her family, and forced her to train as a comforter, preparing her for his ultimate possession.
While Mordred is gone, having the brand made to claim her, Deidra manages to escape the castle. She nearly dies in the forest but is saved from falling into a poacher’s pit by Thorne, a dark lord, one of the race of giant shifters that she’s been taught to fear since childhood.
With dark moons due to rise on the most dangerous night of the year, Thorne must become a centaur for them to escape the monsters that roam with the god of chaos. He carries her to the safety of his brother’s hunting lodge, but is she truly out of danger? From Mordred, perhaps, but there are two dark lords who want her…if she’s willing to share.

Thorne studied her, concern etched in the lines of his handsome face. “If we do this…if you share our bed…” He sighed softly. Shaking his dark shaggy head, he crooked a smile and laughed at himself. “If. If. If. By the rood, I can’t believe I’m saying this,” he confessed, noble intentions clearly warring with his man’s desire. “Last chance, Deidra. If you let us love you tonight and mark you tomorrow, there’s no going back. Think carefully, daughter of light. Are you certain this is what you want?”
Ragan caught her hand. The kiss he pressed against her palm threatened to buckle her knees. “Stay with us,” he whispered. “Say yes, and we will make you ours, in all ways.”
Ours. A shiver ran through her at the thought of their possession.
Lust flared in Thorne’s eyes, and Ragan moved to step in close behind her, his scent of home and hearth – wood smoke, gall ink, parchment, and pears – complementing his outdoorsman brother’s. Between the two, she felt sheltered, surrounded, safe.
Looking from one brother to the other, she answered, “Yes, Thorne. I want this. Yes, Ragan. I will stay.” She assumed a standing presentation pose but kept her gaze on them, her lips curved in a smile that nearly outshone theirs. “Now that that’s settled,” she said, “what would please you, my lords?”
