This week, I'm featuring J. P. Uvalle, a paranormal romance author, and her new release, Hidden Souls: Resurrection of Sin (Book One), which is due out June 3, 2016. It's a disappearance mystery and a steamy romance in one! Let's learn more about J. P. and her book...
Tell us about yourself. Why did you decide to write in the romance/erotica genre?
I am stay-at-home-mom by week and a part-time veterinary technician by weekend. I’ve always had a passion for writing, especially poetry. I started writing in high school, but became more focused on pursuing my career as a veterinary technician, back then.
After my daughter was born via emergency C-section and spent a week in the NICU, my world seemed to be crumbling down around me. I was in a dark place. And when I picked up writing again, I found it was therapeutic. I was myself again. Back then, I didn’t think I would be where I am now – trying to make writing a career. I believe writing was my true calling all along. My soul’s purpose. It’s a shame it took going through what I went through to finally figure that out.
What "heat level" should readers expect from your latest release?
I would say the “heat level” would be steamy for my debut novel, Hidden Souls: Resurrection of Sin.
What do you like most about the heroine and/or hero in your new book?
Xandra Kallan is a tenacious, spit-fire who doesn’t let anything stand in her way of solving the disappearances of seven teenage girls -- or anything questionable for that matter. She is determined and strong, yet there is a delicate and sweet nature to her. I wanted her to be a character with many layers...layers that are slowly unveiled over time.
How do you get ideas for new stories?
Imagination. Dreams mostly. I am what you call a “Lucid Dreamer.” I have the ability to control what happens in my dreams 95 percent of the time. I believe I’ve mastered this ability over the years because I often had nightmares as a kid.
I keep a dream journal and I combined several dreams together to come up with the concept for Hidden Souls.
What is your favorite romantic movie and why?
Grease. Music is life. The story of Danny and Sandy was so captivating – the ultimate “good girl falls for bad boy” story. I have a weakness for bad boys!
What is something you want readers to know about you?
I’m a shy and quiet person at first, but once you get to know me, you’ll have a hard time shutting me up. LOL.
What do you do in your free time when you're not writing?
Spend time with family and friends.
What's the best way for readers to connect with you?
Social media. You can usually find spending too much time on Facebook and Twitter.
What are you working on right now?
I’m working on my third book of the Hidden Souls Series. It's called I Dream of Wild. The first three books of the series are expected to be released this year. Also, I'm working on Forbitten, a standalone vampire romance novel. This book is expected to be released this year, also.
What is your MOST and/or LEAST favorite thing about being a romance/erotica writer?
Most: Getting to connect with readers and other authors.
Least: Editing…blah! I’m a perfectionist, so the little things drive me absolutely crazy!
One case. One secret. One dog. One soul. Can transform a life forever.
FEAR consumes the quiet town of Groverton, North Carolina when seven, teenage girls mysteriously vanish - with little evidence left behind. Unfortunately, their disappearances are only the beginning...
The course of the investigation unleashes a string of bizarre occurrences only bombarding, Xandra Kallan, and her partner, Liam Hendrik with more questions. Questions that make them rethink everything they thought they knew about each other, themselves, and the world around them. For them, meeting and becoming partners runs deeper than fate.
Their souls are fated, and this gives them an unimaginable connection to the suspect.
Sometimes the hardest mystery to solve is your own.
The sexual connection we shared was an out-of-body experience.
My mind slipped into depths I didn't know existed. The sensation of each divine thrust delivered an earth-shattering blow. I came undone around him; my release left me boneless. Weak, pressed against the warmth of his muscular body. His power to consume every part of my being left me struggling for air.
